About Us

We’re just your average Jo (and Corina)

Our story

Hi there! We’re Jo and Corina and we’re the average do-gooders behind Good for the Hood, a social enterprise built from our love of our own neighbourhood in Sydney, Australia. We’re also neighbours.

Our journey began at a creek behind our houses on Wallumettagal Country that our kids call Treasureland. It’s here they’d explore, imagine and create fantasy worlds from nothing more than their natural environment.

Two years ago, we overheard them talking about the “wishing jellyfish.” Strange.. we do get lots of wildlife, but not jellyfish.

What we discovered this “jellyfish” was actually a plastic lining of a disposable coffee cup. It was one moment that inspired our story and has since created a ripple effect of action.

After a few months of building our ‘case for waste’ with neighbours, local business owners, the school and community groups, we launched 5 for Ryde – a community campaign to reduce single-use plastics that had tremendous results.

Today, this one community campaign has led to many many more, and the opportunity to support countless other inspired individuals, community groups, businesses and councils on their pathway to change.

It’s our vision to build an eco-system of everyday change-makers and to make the journey accessible, positive and light-hearted so that every person – no matter what their age or background – can be inspired to create their own piece of good.

Come join the fun and be one of the thousands of people creating good in their ‘hood.
