Each year, Good for the Hood’s Revitalise event brings councils, changemakers, and locals together to spark real, lasting change. It’s a day designed in partnership with Town Team Movement especially for councils who want to build stronger, more connected, and sustainable communities and take practical steps to get there.

Last year, the riverside town of Karuah hosted an unforgettable day of collaboration, connection, and cultural celebration. The year before we held an event with Burwood Council in Sydney’s Inner West.

What Is Revitalise?

Highlights from Karuah

Revitalise was hosted on the move, with participants walking through the heart of Karuah to experience revitalisation in action. This immersive experience brought fresh air (literally!) and real-life inspiration, grounding ideas in local pride and action.

• A moving and heartfelt Welcome to Country and cultural performances at Karuah Public School.
• Walkshop 1: Main Street Revitalisation
  Led by placemaking expert Dean Cracknell, this walking workshop explored how councils can bring life back to their town centres.
• Walkshop 2: River & Wetland Revitalisation
  Hosted by sustainability educator Jo Taranto, highlighting low-cost ways to reconnect communities with nature. 
• Camp Venture: A Playshop to Revitalise Your Community
  A hands-on workshop with Dimitrios Papalexis, focusing on play and creativity to build stronger neighbourhoods.
• Interactive sessions on common issues for local governments and community groups:

These sessions were all about what councils face every day: tight budgets, community fatigue, and engagement barriers and how to overcome them with creativity and practical tools.
